2021 Sneak Peek and Sharing

As this is the first post in 2021, I want to start with Happy New Year to you all!
Since I am not good at writing, allow me to quote my favorite writer’s New Year wishes!

“Be kind to yourself in the year ahead. Remember to forgive yourself, and to forgive others. It’s too easy to be outraged these days, so much harder to change things, to reach out, to understand. Try to make your time matter: minutes and hours and days and weeks can blow away like dead leaves, with nothing to show but time you spent not quite ever doing things, or time you spent waiting to begin. Meet new people and talk to them. Make new things and show them to people who might enjoy them. Hug too much. Smile too much. And, when you can, love.” -Neil Gaiman.

This is his New Year Greeting in 2018, might be outdated, but it is timeless, isn’t it? Every New Year I always love searching his greeting because it is always magical, beautiful and hopeful. I am aware that we are still amidst pandemic and what we shall have in the future is still unknown, at least our first day in 2021 did not begin with rain and flood like last year which is a good sign.

3 days already past, I am grateful I even already got so many little things I did, here some sneak peek of what I am making and what I am reading:

That lady is my traveler friend from Canada. She just posted her old photo and I can’t stop thinking how naturally beautiful she is. The drawing is not yet finished. I will post it on the portfolio section. Stay Tuned! While the book I am reading is related to Vietnamese War. I always want to read a good book about Vietnamese War after watching and listening too much ‘Miss Saigon’. And finally here’s my first time-lapse drawing:

I just recently purchased Procreate apps on my Ipad and I am so addicted to make drawing on it! It’s been a long time I haven’t been making any digital art and surprised how the application becomes so easy and real-time. I always want to record my drawing progress. It gives me satisfaction to watch drawing time lapse, but in traditional art it requires a lot of set-up and I am too lazy to do it, honestly. So this feature on Procreate fulfills my wish.

And there are some work of writings are in progress and still kept as draft, the keyword are “Javanese”, “Shade” and “Pizza”. Can you guess what I am writing? you will see the final result soon or later in my blog and portfolio. 🙂

Also,
There is a book I read in 2020 by Erin Meyer: The Culture Map. I learn how people are complex. They are coming from different cultures and different educations. Unfortunately, people still react based on the stereotype that is strongly built in society. When the company we work has a multicultural ecosystem, cultural difference is no longer a laughing matter. We should adapt our action in order not to offend his/her culture or changing the person to lose his/her value while remain productive and efficient. This book by Erin Meyer is ideal for those who are new to multicultural environment. She provided charts without being too confusing. She shared her experiences without being too bias.

As getting job in 2020 is becoming difficult, don’t make it even more difficult by refusing to know how to deal with other people from different background. I just recently visited my usual bookstore and realized the size is shrinking, shrinking and shrinking. Moreover, the quality books that are educating and mind-challenging are replaced with romance novels and conspiracy books. I believe, people deserve better book. I might suggest you to read this book as it is useful for your career or even for casual tea time with friends. 🙂
